Ghillie is a suit designed to cover the user for eyesight. Ghillie is said to be the ultimate camouflage and one of the best tool of sniper (in real life or in the airsoft).
Making a ghillie suit is not a easy task. It demands more time than skill. Everybody can make a good ghillie with some effort. The tools needed can be found in home or bought from a local shop. There is NO wrong way to make ghillie. So the key factor is the effort. I do not claim to know how to make the best suit. This is the way what I found to be the easiest and best resulting.

What makes a good ghillie?
The question is a hard one, but would have to say that the blending of the ghillies color is the key. You can f@@k up a lot in ghillie and it still may turn out good but if you ruin the coloring, its a major step backwards. The pattern of fabric, the size of fabric, the color of fabric, brightness of colors, colors used  etc are the variables what needs to be kept in mind. Overall the coloring will never be perfect. Nature changes constantly,. So the best camouflage will be achieved by adding some local vegetation. What I usually screw up in the ghillie colouring is that I tend to make it to dark, make the od-green more blue like and tend to put too little green. So to find the perfect 3-4 colors to your ghillie, go to your local woods and spend some time in there. Pay attention to the ground. You should come up with the dominant color. Here in Finland the ground is full of blueberry twigs, fern and moss. There is little or no brown in the ground here. So think what colors, and the brightness of the color will service you the best. No seriously get your a$$ in the woods and study the color. Perfect example of good green is the Russian/soviet KLMK suite. You think the green is all to bright, nut when you compare is with some fern, it perfect.

Getting started
What do I need? How long will this take? How much will this cost?

Ghillie is rather cheap compared to the non-handmade ghillies, and the effectines of it. Factory made ghillies tend to look awesome in the marketing pictures, but are not so good as you think. Hand made ghillie suit will cost about 50 bucks to 200 bucks. It depends where do you buy your stuff and how good ghillie are you making. You will need:
-camo pants and jacket (with hood, if not, then you need to make a ghillie hat out from boonie)
-boonie (if you dont have a hood on your jacket)
-netting (with the

Great article. I agree you really need to go out into the woods and look at it.

Most people will either just make a green ghillie suit, or go out and buy one.

In the US, the ground is mostly brown, at least where I live, so it's important to go out and look at the colors if anyone plans on making one.

That was a great article.  Thanks alot. This should be stickied, it's the best article made thus far on TASCOM.

I spent ten minutes looking for you in that one pic but I found you. I think. Are you in the bottom right? I saw something shiny and it looked out of place. I refuse to look at the link Tongue

Another massive mistake that most "snipers" make is that they try to look like a bush, or a pile of leaves.

One thing you never want to look like is anything, really.

The goal is to blend in as much as possible, to melt into the background of your environment.

You want to basically look like nothing at all, to effectively disappear.

The unnecessary Fail of TASCOM

« Reply #13 on: March 01, 2010, 02:56:44 PM »

I know this hasn't been posted in in a while, but i saw this fitting.
i just started on a winter ghillie, which was VERY simple

here is what i did, found an old bed sheet cut a hole for my head and a couple smaller for my hands, its like a poncho,  and i have some old blanket, that has been ripped up, i used some of that on my rifle, and glued some horizontally on the suit, and tied more on, i also took a headband and tied some more on that. It hopefully will work, will be used in a game this friday and saturday. pictures up soon.(i hope)

Sorry for that. My computer just decieded to explode (sparks and smoke, my power unite broke). There is so much school right now so I decied it would do so much good to be without a computer for 3 months. Right now i'm on my laptop which cant do a thing (expect surff on internet and run some videos etc.). Will but out more material and stuff when I get out of school (about in 1 month). Also my main rifle stock fractured in to two parts (the svsk-08 if eanbody rememmers). I also broke my leg, so it was a hard fall. Right now I'm makeing a new stock, which will be alot better than the old one.

Good luck with your winter ghillie : ).

Evilfish out.
